WAKE UP AFRIKA!

For centuries, Africa and African youths have been living on dreams that may never come true. In the history of mankind, no developed country was ever built  in the absence of its youths. As the saying goes “not all that glitters is gold”, African youths must realize that must of the things they risk their lives for, do not worth it. Taking the backway journey is never and will never be a solution to our problems. Not only are  we losing our youths through the backway to Europe and else where, but about the same or more are being lost through drug abuse or some forms of violence. As the great Reggae star,Bob Marley said,“a hungry man is an angry man” and so, is a hungry nation. A country that struggles to put food on the table, cannot be seen as stable country. What is  our governments doing to help the youths realize their potentials and use it to develop themselves and their countries.? Governments are spending millions of dollars on some white-elephant projects that could be used to build more skill centers, improve the Agricultural sector thereby, creating plenty of jobs. Of course, governments cannot prevent youths from migrating to other countries, but certain measures should be put in place to make sure that human trafficking is under control. What is our governments doing to hold accountable the “Agencies” that are illegally operating in our countries, trafficking our young men and women to the Middle East, making huge sums of money for their personal gains?

Over the last decades, many Gambians and other African migrants who had left our soils, never made it to their destinations and even if they did, there’s always hell waiting for them upon arrival. Our youths struggling in those countries whose only crime is illegally entering a foreign country, deserve the intervention from their countries of origin. Why do our leaders or governments choose to remain silent when their Youths are detained under horrible conditions and tortured or even killed by other countries when the same countries’ citizens are being treated with utmost respect and given all the freedom they need in Africa?

Isn’t it time for the Youths of Africa to wake up from their dreams and realize that no country can be built without Immigrants but on the other hand, no country can be built without the participation of its own youths. Every Gambian who is kept in their notorious detention centers must be accounted for and, this cannot be done without the help of our government. It is time to stand up against the torture and killings of African youths in the Mediterranean Sea.
